Sidney McLean

Sidney McLean recently visited our classroom to talk about her job. She is currently a crown attorney. These people are the ones that prepare the cases for the courtroom and much more. Overall, I have never been interested in law so this job does not really fit me.

Amy Beamer

Amy Beamer works  in human resources at the KPL ( Kitchener Public Library). Her job is to find the right people to work for her company. Having a job in human resources would be pretty cool because you just hire and fire people. On top of that, you have to interview a lot of people. This job would not be suitable for me because it is full of repetition. I would not be able to interview over hundreds of people. I find that boring. Also, if you were to fire someone. They might hold a grudge against you and get revenge. In conclusion I would not like to have this job.

Judith Koeller

A math lecturer visited our classroom to talk about her job. While she was here I learned about what it is like to be a math lecturer. Judith Koeller talked about the education required to become a math lecturer. She also talked about the income and life of being a math lecturer. I do not want to become a math lecturer at all or any sort of job that requires teaching somebody. Overall, a math lecturer is interesting job but it is not something i look forward in becoming.

Who I would vote for.

If I could vote now. My vote would go to the NDP. I'd vote for them because they seem to care more about the people and country. The NDP seem more relaxed on issues such as abortion and other issues. I like the NDP because they will try to raise minimum wages and protect public sector buildings such as schools and hospitals. Overall I would vote for the NDP because they care about the people more than themselves and are less greedy then the conservatives.

Scot Wahl

Having Scot Wahl in class talking about his job is pretty cool,. being able to beta test the new products is a sick perk at RIM. Also, the pay is well. His job at rim seemed pretty good. I did not like the technical writing stuff, it seemed to boring and repetitive and that is something i cant see my self doing. Also, the amount of hours he works a day is a lot. In the end I don't like any of his technical writing jobs but i may be interested in a job at RIM.

Jen, Environmental Professor.

An environmental professor seems like a good job that can help the world.. You think of ways to get people to become more Eco-friendly. You try to get people involved in community events to help clean, plant trees and many more things. You also do a lot of research and paperwork as well as teaching your students. The amount of schooling required for this job seems too much for me. Also, living on a $20,000 salary for a few years seems harsh. Overall an Jen was a good speaker, person and environmental professor but that is not something i can see myself doing in the future.

FFP Course

Overall the FFP course is pretty cool, I enjoy the liberty of being able to do what projects I want. Also, I enjoy the fact that there is no set due date, so I can do the projects with out stressing to complete them last minute. Overall I think this Future Forums Project is good and I would recommend that the program stays running for future students.

Ken North

After listening to Mr North all of his duties and jobs being a fireman. I learned that they do a lot more then just put out fires. They have to be at any life threatening accident , and they're usually the first ones there. I thought it was cool for Mr North to come in and tell about what he really does and how he saves lives.

Should the government be able to listen in to our homes to keep us safe?

No way, that would violate a lot of peoples privacy.  No one could feel totally secure when talking about a matter with anybody, whether it be against the government or something else. Overall, having the government listen in on everything we say and do is a bad idea. Its a bad idea because there could be a lot of false arrest and such from people just joking around. It would also feel like Hitlers secret police, the government could have random people listening on the streets and reporting any matters to the government.

Are people evil or good?

Generally, most people are evil. The things we do to animals and each other is disgusting. Majority of us eat meat. That means that some farmer has to kill a live animal just for us to eat. Also, greed is a main factor to why people are evil. Everyone wants money and some are just willing to go further than others to get it. People will kill, steal, and rob people just to make some quick cash. That is what makes the world we live in, evil. Therefore I believe that majority of the world made up of evil people.

Paintball

Recently ive gotten into a sport called Paintball. Paintball is where you use airguns to shoot paint capsules at the enemy team. When you are hit with a paintball it only hurts for the first few seconds. It is like a stinging sensation when you are hit. Although it doesn't hurt when you are playing, it does leave a welt. There are many game types to this sport such as speed-ball, woods-ball and many more. Speed-ball is played indoors or outdoors. There are inflatable barricades for you to hide behind. Woods-ball is played in the woods. There you have to use trees and stumps for cover as you playing. Game types include capture the flag, elimination, death-match, defend the fort and many more. Overall, Paintball is a fun sport and i would recommend it to everyone to try it at least once.

Should french be mandatory?

Should french be mandatory in schools? The answer is no. It should not be mandatory because a student could be interested in another subject. Having french as an elective would give students more choice for their first year of high school. Instead of having three electives for the first year, they could have four. This would give them a chance to select a different elective such as cosmetology, computer tech and etc. Overall French should not be mandatory because it would give students more choice for their first grade nine year to explore with their future.

Carrie Snyder

Recently in our classroom, an author named Carrie Snyder visited our classroom and introduced herself. She talked about her childhood, job and life now. She has written a few books such as Hair Hat and The Juliet Stories. I have never read these books, but they seem interesting to me when she talked about them. Being an author would not be suitable for me. That is because I do not enjoy writing stories that much. Overall I think Carrie Snyder is an exceptional author and speaker but having a job as an author would not be something I am interested in.

12th Night - Prank

When i was around 10 years old, my friends and I decided to prank our other friend. Our plan was to take his shoes and bury them. At the time my friend lived across the street from me. Our families were close friends so I snuck into their home, took his shoes and ran to the back of his house. There, 2 other friends dug a giant hole and we thew the shoes in.We began filling up the hole but one of my friends decided to pour his water bottle into the hole. Mud filled everything as we buried them. I think to this day the shoes still haven't been re-dug and may be laying there in the ground..

Lit Circle Book Choice

For the Lit Circle, my first choice was Lord of The Flies. I picked this as my first choice because the books description is about miniature kid factions fighting each other on a stranded island. I like reading action/adventure books and there is a movie for this book so i would enjoy reading the book then watching the movie. Lastly my second choice was Slaughter House 5 because it sounds like a interesting book. I chose that as my second choice because its about a man who gets stuck in time and is capture by aliens. In conclusion my two book choices were Lord of the Flies and Slaughter House 5.

Tommy Jordan

I recently watched the video on how Tommy Jordan shot his daughters laptop multiple times. That was very childish to put it up on the web, if he was a real grown up he would have simply dealt with this matter privately to avoid and publicity from spreading. Also, his daughter may not be able to find a job or work now due to this video and once something is posted on the internet, it stays forever. In conclusion Tommy Jordan dealt with the a little bit too childish and could have handled this with more discreet.

Gun Control

Gun control is very important in Canada because with loose gun laws people could easily obtain guns to cause harm to others. Canada's gun law should stay the same because it keeps criminals from acquiring guns legally, still allows sport shooters to acquire them and lastly prevents harm to others. Canada has a long process on how to register for a gun, they do a background check on you and make you wait a few months. Also you must take a gun course before you then can get your license. People with criminal records cannot purchase a firearm legally nor can they apply for a license. Secondly people who hunt or do sport shooting will still be able to get guns just for the sport or hunting, this allows some people who participate in this hobby to continue their experience. Lastly good gun control in Canada will get more guns off the street so there is less gun violence on the street. This will prevent and save many lives from death. As of year 2000 Canada had 1 million handguns while the United states had a enormous amount of 77 million that year alone. In conclusion gun control is very important to Canada because it keeps criminals from getting weapons, allows some loose exception for hobbyist in that sector and lastly prevents and saves lives of Canadians.

Legalization of Marijuana

Marijuana has been a big topic in debates whether it should stay illegal or become legalized. Marijuana should be legalized because it brings more pros then cons, such as, they government could greatly profit of this, safe use of the Marijuana and lastly legalization would reduce crime. First off, the government could profit off this like alcohol, when prohibition was in action all the money that was made exporting alcohol was being sent to the mobsters and criminals while the government got none of it. Same thing with Marijuana drug dealers are profiting greatly off selling weed to teens and the government isn't getting any money. Also, safe use of the drug would be that when teens purchase Marijuana from a drug dealer, the dealer could have laced it with another drug such as cocaine or heroin. So if the government sold clean weed it would prevent teens and adults from getting into other drugs. Lastly legalizing marijuana would reduce crime because a lot of people are in jail over drug possession and other things related to Marijuana, if legalized this would give police time to find other bigger dealers that sell cocaine or heroin instead of Marijuana. In conclusion Marijuana should be legalized because the government can make lots of money of it, safer use of the drug and it would reduce crime.
